Do I need a consultation before a treatment?

You will need an initial consultation for your first injectable and laser treatments so that we can ensure we are reviewing your medical history and other criteria to ensure these treatments will be safe and appropriate for you.

Facial treatments may account for extra time at the beginning of each session to assess skin status, progress, and needs but these treatments can be booked without an initial consultation prior to the treatment.

Wellness consultations may require a turnaround time after the initial consultation to present a final treatment plan proposal to our clients.

Is Apothekaria for everyone?

Yes. While not all treatments may be indicated or safe for every individual, we welcome all clients to discuss their wellness goals with us and we can discuss what we can offer.

Can I complete my initial consultation and start treatments the same day?

We will do our best to accommodate treatment initiation on the same day of a consultation, however, there are treatments that require pre-treatment preparation or supplies for which a same day treatment start may not be possible, indicated or safe.

How do botulinum toxin or neuromodulator injections work?

Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that tells your muscles to contract. When injected into specific muscles, it reduces their activity, allowing the overlying skin to appear smoother and reducing the appearance of wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions.

The treatment is precise and targeted, helping soften lines while maintaining natural facial movement when appropriately administered.

Will I still look natural after my injections?

Yes. Our goal is to enhance your natural features, not eliminate your ability to express yourself. Your treatment plan is personalized to your facial anatomy, muscle activity, aesthetic goals, and desired degree of movement.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses concentrated light energy to target the pigment (melanin) within hair follicles. The energy is converted into heat, which damages the follicle and reduces its ability to produce hair.

Because hair grows in different cycles, multiple treatments are needed to achieve optimal long-term hair reduction.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, not a guarantee of permanent hair removal. Many clients experience a significant reduction in hair growth, with remaining hair often becoming finer and lighter. Periodic maintenance treatments may be needed to maintain results.

Is laser hair removal safe for all skin tones?

Laser hair removal can be performed on a range of skin tones, but the appropriate laser technology and settings are essential. Different wavelengths interact differently with melanin in the skin and hair.

Our provider will assess your skin tone, hair characteristics, recent tanning, and medical history to determine the safest and most appropriate treatment approach.

What hair colors respond best to laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal generally works best on dark, coarse hair because it contains more melanin to absorb the laser energy. Blonde, white, gray, and many red hairs may respond poorly because they contain less of the pigment targeted by the laser.

A consultation can help determine whether you are a suitable candidate.

Do I have to shave before my appointment?

Yes. Shaving the treatment area completely is required 12–24 hours before laser treatment, for your safety: hair left on the skin can burn under the laser. We will go over this at your consultation. Shaving leaves the hair root in place while removing surface hair, allowing the laser to target the follicle.

Avoid waxing, plucking, threading, or electrolysis before treatment because these methods remove the hair from the follicle.

Can I have laser hair removal if I have a tan?

Recent tanning, including sun exposure and self-tanning products, can increase the risk of burns and pigment changes. Avoid tanning before and after treatment and inform your provider about any recent sun exposure.

Your appointment may need to be postponed until your skin is suitable for treatment.

What is a microdermabrasion facial?

Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive skin-resurfacing treatment that gently exfoliates the outermost layer of the skin to remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture. It can help reveal a smoother, brighter, more refreshed complexion with minimal downtime.

How does microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion uses a specialized device to exfoliate the skin’s surface, typically through a diamond-tipped wand or a stream of fine crystals combined with suction. This process removes accumulated dead skin cells and helps improve the appearance of dullness, uneven texture, and superficial imperfections.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion may help:

  • Improve skin smoothness and texture.
  • Brighten a dull-looking complexion.
  • Reduce the appearance of superficial fine lines.
  • Improve the appearance of mild uneven skin tone.
  • Unclog pores and reduce the appearance of congestion.
  • Enhance the absorption of selected skincare products.
  • Leave skin looking refreshed and radiant.

Results vary depending on your skin type, concerns, and treatment plan.

Who is a good candidate for microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion may be suitable for individuals seeking gentle exfoliation and improvement in skin texture or dullness. It is particularly useful for clients who want a refreshed appearance without an intensive resurfacing procedure.

A consultation is important to determine whether the treatment is appropriate for your skin type and concerns.

Do you publish before-and-after photographs?

We do not publish them on this website. Individual results vary, and we would rather show you what is realistic for you, in consultation, than a photograph of someone else.
